CapYear is FREE for pre-health graduates to apply for jobs. We provide a host of additional free resources to help you with your applications and career development. If you choose to enroll in our structured advising through our future online course, group coaching, and 1:1 advising, each has associated tiered costs to be accessible to most students. We work with select employers to offer advising as an employment benefit.
This will be employer dependent but CapYear makes it easy to search which employers do and don’t require a certificate MA or CNA certificates. We work on our end to find employers with clinical positions that do not require a medical assistant certificate. Jobs that are CapYear certified are most likely to have waived requirements for CNA or medical assistant certification for clinical positions.
We are not just advisors, we help you cut through the noise to find gap year experiences with employers who are looking specifically to hire and support pre-health students. CapYear then provides wraparound support to successfully use your gap year time to gain admissions to PA or medical school. We are a one stop shop for your gap year.
Our team is led by Deborah Gutman, MD, MPH who is a practicing emergency physician with 25 years of experience in clinical practice at top academic medical centers. She trained at and served in a number of leadership and teaching roles at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University and has won several teaching and patient satisfaction awards. She is current faculty and pre health advisor at the Brown Gateways Master of Science in Medical Sciences Program. For the last 10 years she has been the sole proprietor of a successful advising practice providing individualized advising for students planning to attend medical school, PA school, and residency programs. She has spoken at numerous national conferences on medical schools admission and is author of several publications in medical education. As chief medical educator Dr. Gutman trains all of our CapYear advisors to our CapYear methods and standards.

Currently, we are offering 1:1 individual advising appointments. These appointments can be used to strategize your gap year plan and improve your candidacy for PA or medical school. We also offer interview preparation sessions and a re-applicant evaluation. We will be launching a full set of asynchronous courses to guide your applications to medical school and PA school with optional group advising.
Ultimately that is up to you and your employer. Most employers are looking for a minimum 12 month commitment, some may require up to a 24 month commitment.
